The Rosenbaum House is a single-family house designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright and built for Stanley and Mildred Rosenbaum in Florence, Alabama. A noted example of his Usonian house concept, it is the only Wright building in Alabama, and is one of only 26 pre-World War II Usonian houses. The Hanna Houseis built primarily of native redwood and San Jose concrete, brick andglass. In fact, there is no paintpresent in the house as all exposed surfaces are comprised of those fourmaterials. Wright, as he usually did,blurred the lines between interior and exterior spaces. Built on 1.5 acres, thesingle-story house features numerous tile terraces, built-in furnishings, anopen floor plan and a central clerestory.
Some people think the Freeman House block design looks a little bit like flowers. Some of them were perforated and glazed, allowing additional light into the house. It was constructed in 1923 for Samuel and Harriet Freeman, two members of the Los Angeles avant-garde. They met Wright through Aline Barnsdall, who owned Hollyhock House. The Freemans asked Wright to design a home for them with a budget of $10,000.

The Hannas lived in the house until giving it to Stanford in 1975. It housed four university provosts until suffering severe damage in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.

Some people think the Freeman House block design looks a little bit like flowers. Some of them were perforated and glazed, allowing additional light into the house. It was constructed in 1923 for Samuel and Harriet Freeman, two members of the Los Angeles avant-garde. They met Wright through Aline Barnsdall, who owned Hollyhock House. The Freemans asked Wright to design a home for them with a budget of $10,000.
One of the last of Wright’s Usonian homes, the Gordon House is based on the design for a modern home commissioned by Life magazine in 1938. Wright designed Blue Sky Mausoleum at the request of Darwin D. Martin, the secretary of the Larkin Soap Company (Wright’s first public commission) and Wright’s longtime friend. Though Wright conceived of Community Christian Church as “the church of the future,” wartime material shortages and restrictive building codes forced him to abandon many of his original visions.

The San Francisco area is also home to eight of them, including two of his most important works. Wright had previously used hexagonal grids as the basis for the elaboration of some projects like the Cudney House in San Marcos (1928), the San Marcos Hotel project, and the Steel Cathedral in New York (1936). But none of those projects achieved the complexity and richness of possibilities that the Hanna House did.
Challenged by Herbert Jacobs to create a decent home for $5,000, Wright’s design for “Jacobs I” (as it came to be known) is widely considered to be Wright’s first Usonian structure. At just 880-square feet, Wright’s smallest residential design manages to boil down Wright’s design philosophy to its essence. The little cottage perched high above Mirror Lake is muscularly geometric, seeming at once to hug the earth and burst forth from it. Owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Usonian-style Pope-Leighey House is nestled within a small wooded grove on the same site as the Trust’s historic Woodlawn mansion in Alexandria, VA. Each element of Wright’s only synagogue was carefully designed with a contemporary approach to Jewish faith, history and religious practice. Wright was 22 years old and newly married when he borrowed $5,000 from his employer, Louis Sullivan, to build a home for his future family.
Once they got engaged, he sold the house to his parents Otto and Amie. The house had 24 owners over 100 years. Designated a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 1980. Sold in 2014 to James Yunker and Suzanne Yousefzadeh.
Like Wright, they believed that a house had a significant impact on the social development of its inhabitants. As educators, the Hannas were concerned with the environmental component of the learning process and a building’s ability to adapt to changing conditions. They found that Wright’s ideas about organic architecture and the role of the machine resonated with their own values. For the Hannas, Wright was a perfect fit both architecturally and pedagogically. The Hanna house on Stanford’s campus is also known as the “Honeycomb House” — this because its design was based on the hexagonal geometric figure (the honeycomb) produced by bees.
Wright did a home for Griffith at another location in 1936. The W. E. Sauer House Addition, 6309 McPherson Street, St. Louis MO. The Tule Mat House, Imperial Valley CA. As of 2014, the address doesn't exist, but there is an apartment building at 940 and 946, 1927 and 1925 respectively. Both buildings appear to have been large homes as originally designed. The Raymond and Bertha Griffith Ranch House, 4900 Dunman Avenue, formerly 4965 Rigoletto Street, Woodland Hills CA. In a time when most people did not have any air conditioning, the Griffith house had three air-conditioners and three climate zones. Featured in Architectural Forum, June 1938. Wright also designed the Yucca-Vine grocery store for the Griffiths, since destroyed.

The White House Hotel, located on the beach along Hwy 90 in Biloxi, MS, is a historical hotel dating back to the 1890’s. Originally the home to Walter White, a Gulf Coast lawyer and later a Circuit Court judge, and his wife Cora.
The White House Hotel you see today was the result of Cora, her sons Walter and John, and architect George B. Rogers working together to build two additions that are now the center and east wings. The Tivoli Hotel was built in 1927 as a 6-story, T-shaped brick structure in Second Renaissance Revival architectural style. It was one of only four historic Mississippi Coast hotels still standing, but abandoned, at the turn of the 21st century. In 2005, a casino barge slammed into the structure during Hurricane Katrina.[24] In 2006, the hotel was demolished.
Shaded by venerable oaks while commanding a panoramic Gulf view, this Grande Dame once reigned as the crown jewel of the Mississippi coast. Salvaging thousands of discarded oyster shells to fill in the enormous lot’s swampy lowlands, White created a gently sloping knoll that would anchor his new Victorian residence on high ground while commanding a panoramic view of the Gulf. He also planted the seven live oak trees that continue to graciously shade the White House Hotel today. Cora White, the wife of Gulf Coast lawyer and later Circuit Court Judge Walter White, began accepting boarders into their home on the Biloxi beach while Walter was establishing his new law practice. In 1910, two of the buildings were joined to create a lobby, a dining room and a ballroom.
One of the top features at White House Hotel is its lovely outdoor pool with gulf views. The pool isn't heated, but it’s quite spacious and offers bar service on summer weekends. It also has an adjacent hot tub and lots of comfy seating surrounding it on an expansive patio. The fitness center is open 24/7, but it’s sparsely equipped with only two pieces of cardio equipment and free weights. A free continental breakfast is served daily in the lobby, and coffee is free all day.
Keesler Air Force Base is just one-half mile away and the casinos and new baseball stadium are only one mile. Guests will need a car, since there are no restaurants are within a reasonable walk from the hotel. The Mississippi Coast Coliseum and Convention Center is an 11-minute drive along Beach Blvd., and Keesler Air Force Base is less than 10 minutes away. Gulfport is about 20 minutes by car and Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport is a 24-minute drive.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the quiet boutique property exudes an understated elegance. It has an upscale feel, as arriving guests are greeted by a row of stately white columns supporting the front porch. A tasteful mix of old and new touches decorate the beautiful lobby, including antique wooden floorboards in front of a fireplace framed by stamped copper. Children are welcome, but it hosts mostly adults – especially couples and small groups who might visit the nearby casinos but prefer not to stay in their bustling hotels.

Units are generally quiet, with views ranging from the neighboring residential houses to partial and full water views. The White House Hotel itself is absolutely stunning, and the building stands beautiful and tall on the oceanfront in Biloxi/Gulfport. With the white columns, this hotel really is a grand dame, and the lobby and bar area follows suit. The interior is clean and classic (a word I can’t stop using in reference to the hotel), and I knew right away that I needed to get my hands on a martini and sit down on one of the couches by the window (I managed to do so within an hour). The White House Hotel is set a bit back from Beach Blvd. on the Gulf of Mexico, just across the street from a beach.
